What is basalt fiber

Jan 25, 2024|

Basalt fibers: Continuous fibers drawn from natural basalt. It is a continuous fiber made of basalt material at 1450 °C ~ 1500 °C and drawn at high speed through a platinum rhodium alloy wire drawing drain plate. The color of pure natural basalt fibers is generally brown. Basalt fiber is a new type of inorganic environmentally friendly green high-performance fiber material, which is composed of oxides such as silicon dioxide, alumina, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, iron oxide and titanium dioxide. Basalt continuous fiber not only has high strength, but also has a variety of excellent properties such as electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance. Basalt fiber is made by melting basalt ore at high temperature and drawing wire, which has a silicate similar to natural ore, and can be biodegraded in the environment after disposal, which is harmless to the environment. China has listed basalt fiber as one of the four major fibers (carbon fiber, aramid, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, basalt fiber) for key development, and has realized industrial production. Basalt continuous fibers have been widely used in fiber reinforced composites, friction materials, shipbuilding materials, thermal insulation materials, automotive industry, high-temperature filter fabrics, and protective fields.
