First of all, from the perspective of material composition, mineral wool is mainly made of mineral rock wool or slag wool. Mineral rock wool products are composed of basalt or diabase, which are transformed into fiber by melting, centrifugation and other processes. Slag wool, on the other hand, is a material made from metallurgical slag, which is also converted into a fibrous form. Fiberglass insulation is mainly composed of recycled glass, sand and adhesives, with an average of 40% to 60% recycled glass, and products come in a variety of sizes and different densities.
Secondly, from the point of view of physical properties, mineral wool materials have excellent fire resistance and moisture resistance, usually in the form of cotton wadding and loose filler. Fiberglass insulation also has these properties, and its thickness and thermal resistance value vary, with denser products suitable for areas with limited cavity space, while the thinnest products can be used for walls and frames.
In addition, from the point of view of installation and use, both materials need to be carefully installed to avoid causing irritation to the skin. However, mineral wool may be more focused on fire and thermal insulation properties, while fiberglass insulation materials are popular for their cost-effective and diverse applications.
